Verbena  spp. (ver BEE-nah)

Sweet William, Rose Vervain

The 2-inch clusters of blooms of this cheerful plant will greet you from February to April. Enjoy the fragrant, evergreen foliage year-round. Use it as a slow- to medium-growing groundcover, an early season pick-you-up, or as a complement to other flowers in a cottage garden. You won't need to water this plant very often. It will need watering every so often in summer to keep it thick. Plant in mass to attract butterflies. It looks great paired with short-leaved natives such as Salvia greggii, and with Rose-Mallow Pavonia or old roses This long-lived flower will provide enjoyment for many years with very little maintenance.
