Salvia microphylla ‘Hot Lips'
Hot Lips Sage
The reason this salvia is named ‘Hot Lips' is obvious. The multitude of flowers, with their red tips and white lips, will cheer you up all summer. ‘Hot Lips' is similar to Salvia greggii in look, though its texture is finer and the leaf size a bit smaller. This is a drought-tolerant, easy-care shrub, needing only shearing in winter and mid-summer to keep it neat and thick. Great in borders and flower beds; pair it with foliage of a contrasting color or complementary-colored flowers. Bees like this plant very much, as do butterflies and hummingbirds. An attractive plant and a wildlife attractor in one. Leaves have a sage-y smell when crushed. -- Rick R.
