Mt. Emory Mountain Sage
This light green leaves of this tall salvia announce the return of spring. Very showy vermillion-red flowers bloom mid-August to October, when the rest of your Texas garden is gasping for breath. The blooms show up particularly well in sun. Heat seems to have no ill effect on this one. It grows tall and strong through drought, as well. It wouldn't hurt to protect it from late-afternoon heat, though. You can cut it back each winter to encourage busier growth. Plant with Turk's Cap, other salvias, fragrant mistflower and pigeonberry. It attracts bees and butterflies. Extremely drought-tolerant and quick-growing.
3-5' tall (can reach 8') x 4' wide Sun/Dappled shade Zone 7-11 Native
