Glandularia bipinnatifida var. bipinnatifida (Nutt.)
Prairie Verbena

This is a quick-growing groundcover with a bonus: beautiful purple flowers from spring to fall. It doesn't require much water, and it can handle sun or part shade. It's a short-lived perennial, only an annual in some places, so let its flowers go to seed so new plants will emerge. Native to Texas, it also is native to much of the Midwest. Butterflies like the flowers as a nectar source. Prairie Verbena gets bonus points for having jagged, long leaves lying close to the ground. Interesting. But the flower heads are the star.
