Senna lindheimeriana
Lindheimer's Senna

This bushy perennial has dainty yellow flowers that bloom summer to fall. Its velvety soft leaves, 4 to 8 pairs per stem, have a silverly look on the underside; they droop from the stem like tears. It has a loose growth habit, so gardeners who like their plants neat and tidy may want to pass on this one. The Texas native can take the heat and the cold, though if the temperature gets below 20 degrees F, the top might die off. However, the bush will return in spring. Low-water needs. Discard the seeds if you don't want new plants springing up. Types of butterflies it attracts in Dallas County, per the Dallas County Lepidopterists' Society: Sleepy Orange (Abaeis nicippe) and Funereal Duskywing (Erynnis funeralis).
