Mexican Petunia 'Chi Chi Pink'
Mostly Texas Natives Nursery
Ruellia brittoniana ‘ChiChi Pink’
Mexican Petunia ‘ChiChi Pink’
The drawback of 'Chi Chi' is also its strength: If pampered, it can spread rapidly. So, don't both watering it regularly once it's established, don't fertilize it. Don't do anything except enjoy its pretty, pink 1-inch-wide flowers, which resemble those of petunias. This perennial blooms each morning all summer. Old flowers drop off and new flowers form; when day breaks, it's show time. When temperatures dip into the 20s, the plant will die to the ground, quickly recovering in the spring. Very drought-tolerant. If your area gets a lot of rain, consider growing 'Chi Chi' in a container. Otherwise, put it in the back or middle of a perennial garden for perennial delight.
